8 Tips to Unlock Your Apple Watch Ultra's Potential

The Apple Watch is a remarkably convenient gadget for tech enthusiasts. The Ultra was first launched in 2022, and over the past couple of years, we’ve seen upgrades to many of its features. Apple highlights well-known updates like the larger display and water temperature sensor, but there are other hidden features that users discover over time. Here are 8 tips to unlock your Apple Watch Ultra's full potential.

1. Camera Remote

Capture photos with your iPhone with just a click of a button on your Apple Watch. Open the camera app on your Apple Watch and position your iPhone to snap a photo using either the rear or front-facing camera.

2. Automatic Before Bed Charging Reminder

Many people wear their Apple Watch at night to use the vibration alarm, but since it's worn all night, it may not charge and could die before the alarm goes off. To avoid this, go to Settings > Sleep and enable Charging Reminders. This way, you'll receive a notification to charge your watch before bed to ensure it wakes you up.

3. Fall Detection

Fall detection on the Apple Watch alerts emergency services and your emergency contacts if it detects a fall and no movement for a minute. It will also sound an alarm. However, when you first receive your watch, this feature is only enabled for workouts. To turn it on permanently, go to Settings > SOS > Fall Detection and select Always On.

4. Unlock Your Mac via Apple Watch

To enable this feature, open your Mac, go to Settings > Touch ID & Password, and toggle the button under Apple Watch. The next time you open your Mac, a notification will appear on your watch, and with just a tap, your Mac will be unlocked and ready to use.

5. "Left Behind" Notification

When you're in a rush, it's easy to forget your phone. The 'Left Behind' notification helps ensure you don't leave it behind by notifying you when you leave a location and your phone is not with you. To set it up, go to Find My > Devices > Tap iPhone > Notify When Left Behind.

6. Customize Navigation Wrist Taps

The Apple Watch's navigation app allows users to receive turn-by-turn directions without constantly checking the screen. Instead, haptic feedback, like wrist vibrations, provides cues—one vibration for a left turn and two for a right. This hands-free feature makes navigating easier and more intuitive for Apple Watch users.

To enable haptic feedback for navigation on your Apple Watch, open the Watch app on your iPhone, then go to Maps and select Haptic Feedback. This feature will help you receive turn directions through wrist vibrations, enhancing your navigation experience

7. Extend Your Screen's Wake Time

The Apple Watch screen is set to stay awake for 15 seconds, which may not be enough when distractions arise. Users can extend this time to 70 seconds by going to Settings > Display & Brightness and selecting Wake Duration, then choosing the Wake for 70 Seconds option.

8. Set Your Watch Five Minutes Ahead

Are you often running late? Set your Apple Watch five minutes ahead to help avoid this! This feature allows you to adjust the watch face display to show the time five minutes earlier without impacting your alarms or clocks in other time zones.

To do this, go to Settings > Clock > +0 min, then turn the Digital crown to advance the time ahead up to 59 minutes.
